How To Get Rid of Lice Completely
Scratching your head frequently, whitish grains on your shirts and hair, crusting and redness of scalp- these are all cardinal signs of head lice infestation or pediculosis. Head lice however is not dangerous and do not spread diseases among children, especially. But this condition is downright contagious- it can even infest a whole day care class!
Treatment of lice may include the use of anti-lice shampoos but these are insecticides, too. As such, they contain chemicals which may pose harm to your child’s scalp. These should be used with extreme care and caution. In addition to these commercial lice treatment shampoo products, home remedies for lice might also be helpful. Here are some tips which you may try to do at the comfort of your own home, apart from using the popular vinegar, mayonnaise and Vaseline techniques:
Neem Oil and Leaves. Smother neem oil into the hair abundantly and leave it into the hair for about an hour or so. After soaking the hair in oil and shampooing it, use a fine brush to remove the dead lice and nits. When neem leaves are available, boil neem leaves, let it cool and soak the hair in the mixture and do the succeeding steps similar with sing neem oil.
Treating head lice should not only focus in the kid’s hair and scalp, it should be holistic and must include the items that come in contact with the kid’s hair and scalp, otherwise, all these other natural home remedies for lice that we implement, will be of no significance.
Focus on Bed Linens and Clothing. Wash bed linens, especially the pillowcase in very hot water. If there are any linens or clothing that cannot be washed, dry clean them. Stuffed animal toys should also be washed, if not kept inside an airtight container for two weeks to kill the lice and nits.
Items That Come In Contact With the Hair. Combs, headbands and brushes should also be soaked in rubbing alc
ohol and water solution. They can also be washed using hot water after to ensure that all lice and nits are dead. To save the cost and effort, simply throw them away and buy new ones. Never exchange hair items with other kids or use other kids’ combs.
Proper Hygiene. The best among all home remedies for lice is good and proper hygiene should be observed at all times. Bath and shampoo hair regularly and make sure you do regular checking for presence of nits as it is best to prevent head lice rather than suffer the irksome symptoms and effects of this widespread infestation.
